Top Ten Jean Grey Covers of all time
10. X-men Forever # 3
Jean relives important key moments in her life while at the same time re-bonding with the Phoenix force. The cover depicts Jean in her Revolution era costume, which was extremely short lived and forgotten by most fans. Prior to this costume, Jean had been wearing her traditional green Phoenix costume and calling herself Phoenix.
Jean Grey Displays Power – Deleted Scene
For those of you who don’t own the X-men 3 DVD with the deleted scenes, here is a scene that was cut. Jean (Dark Phoenix) displays her power to Magneto.
Is Jean Grey evil?
Depends on the writer, and the time period.
Originally, she was known as Marvel Girl, one of the founding members of the X-Men. When the 2nd line-up formed (Storm, Wolverine, Colossus) she and Cyclops took some time off…
After re-joining the X-Men, she sacrificed herself by piloting a space shuttle back to earth, even though the pilot’s seat was being buffeted by deadly radiation. What happened next is a little open to interpretation.
Originally they said that she bonded with an alien entity called the Phoenix force, which protected her from the radiation, and gave her new powers. She then called herself Phoenix, but eventually became Dark Phoenix, which was portrayed as an evil character. (The Hellfire Club also mind-controlled her and turned her into their “Black Queen” somewhere along the way)
Dark Phoenix Rising…Again
Mark Gardner has created another wonderful comic poking fun at Jean Grey. He additionally makes fun of a few other things such as coming back from death, Wolverine’s overuse and a few other overdone plot lines.
What is your favorite version of Jean Grey? Poll
Of course Jean is fabulous in all of her forms, but I’m sure there is one that stands above the rest in each person’s mind. So let’s put the issue to rest and decide how we like Jean the best.

Uncanny X-men 135
#3 Comic to Own for Phoenix Fans – “Defeated by Dark Phoenix”
First appearance of Dark Phoenix…and X-men are never the same. This striking cover features Dark Phoenix crushing the title masthead which was a first in the history of the Uncanny X-men.
Dark Phoenix destroys the Blackbird, sending the X-Men plummeting to their deaths over Central Park. The X-Men make it safely to the ground, but Dark Phoenix pursues them and they battle. Back at the Hellfire Club, Shaw proposes re-starting the Sentinel program to Senator Robert Kelly. In Central Park, Phoenix takes off into space, leaving the X-Men to be found by Beast. Phoenix destroys the D’Bari star and then a Shi’ar battlecruiser. Lilandra resolves to deal with the Phoenix threat once and for all. The X-Men have meanwhile returned to the mansion to regroup when Cyclops senses Phoenix returning to earth… and she’s hungry.
Heartbreaking and stunning at the same time, this is the issue where everything really takes off in the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Top Ten Quotes by Jean Grey
Top 10 + 1 Quotes by Jean Grey
Jean is good at getting the last word in so it is easy to find quality quotes from her. But, it was hard limiting this to only the Top 10 quotes, which meant using most quotes from the Dark Phoenix Saga, since there were so many great ones. I just couldn’t limit it to only 10 so I added one for good measure. Would you add any additional quotes? Feel free to add a comment with new quote.
- “I am fire and life incarnate! Now and forever — I am Phoenix!”
Phoenix, Uncanny X-men #101 - “If even one more person died at my hands…It’s better this way. Quick. Clean. Final. I love you, Scott. A part of me will always be with you.”
Dark Phoenix, Uncanny X-men #137 Her final words other than “Scott!”. - “I am what was, what is, what will be — the black angel, Chaos-Bringer!I AM POWER!”

Top Ten X-men Villains
Thanks to Marvel for providing the basis for this list. For a full reading, please visit their page on this subject: X-men villains. Marvel classified Dark Phoenix as #4, but I moved her up to #2. I couldn’t delude myself into thinking she was their ultimate villain, I think everyone would agree that has been and always will be Magneto. But for pure power, emotion and the effect she had on the X-men I think Dark Phoenix deserves #2 status, no offense Marvel. I found a similar list of the top ten comic book villains at TopTenz.net

10. ONSLAUGHT
First Appearance: X-MEN v2 #53 (1996)
The very concept of this character hinges on the enduring, enthralling and never boring relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto. Onslaught is big, ambitious and the kind of threat worthy of an event.

9. STRYFE
First Appearance: NEW MUTANTS v1 #87 (1990)
What makes Stryfe such a great foe for the X-Men isn’t his cool powers or rad costume, it’s his very personal connection to several of their key members and the fact that so much of his hatred towards them feels quite justified.

8. THE SHADOW KING
First Appearance: X-MEN v1 #117 (1979)
The very first mutant menace Charles Xavier ever encountered—the Shadow King—was, as Professor X has said more than once, in many ways the reason the X-Men were formed.

Artwork
Here my favorite pieces that I personally own. If you wish to start your own personal art collection of Phoenix artwork, you can start with eBay. That’s what I have did and then started attending comic conventions and acquiring artwork directly from the artists by requesting sketches.
Jean Grey by Ed Benes
I purchased this Jean Grey piece at an auction at Heroes Con in 2006. It is one of my favorite pieces even though she is in one of the most uninspired costumes she ever wore. Great work by Ed Benes and Marc Deering in spite of the costume. It was drawn by Ed Benes and inked by Marc Deering.
Phoenix – Art Nouveau
This was a gift from my friend Chris for Christmas ’06. Obviously it is a great piece and he had commissioned from Brian Shearer. You can view his website at Gravy Boy to see more of his work. He has some other Phoenix pieces on his site, but not this one.
I have also commissioned a Cyclops Art Nouveau piece from Brian.
Phoenix Pixie
You can see the artists progression with the wonderful piece: Phoenix Pixie. I commissioned this piece and I have the blue pencil prelm, as well.
Phoenix by Jim Lee
I was very fortunate to have a friend, Dave Luebke who is a bigwig in the comic industry (Dave’s Comics) who met Jim Lee and asked him to commission this artwork as a surprise gift for me. Obviously I’m elated and thankful for Dave’s generosity and Jim Lee’s talent. I treasured addition to my collection!
Below are links to various collections of artwork containing Jean Grey, Phoenix, Dark Phoenix and other renditions of Jean’s character. I’ll add more was I find particularly nice artwork to include.
